Three subjects were wounded in a shooting in the Bronx a few blocks from Yankee Stadium on Monday night.
According to authorities, the three victims were struck by gunshots near Joyce Kilmer Park, located at 911 Walton Avenue, at approximately 8:15 p.m.
Among those shot are a 24-year-old man who was shot once in the right leg, a 44-year-old man shot once in the left leg and a 44-year-old man who was shot once in the lower back.
The victims are expected to survive their injuries, ABC 7 New York reported.
Witnesses said they heard between six and 10 shots in quick succession.
“We thought it was the fireworks,” said Henny Nuñez, a Concourse resident. “I told my friend, ‘That’s not fireworks. Those are shots.’”
Nuñez also said that the park near the scene was full of people grilling and celebrating the day before the Independence Day holiday when the shooting began.
The New York Police Department describes the shooting suspect as male, last seen wearing a white hoodie.
Detectives are still investigating whether the people involved in the crime were intended targets.
The shooting follows a bloody weekend that included gun violence across New York City, including seven shootings in the Bronx that occurred in a span of seven hours.
