At the beginning of this year, Walmart announced plans to close several of its stores. So far, most of them have been closed. The reason behind this decision is that these stores are not meeting the established sales expectations.
And now Walmart wants to focus on profitable stores and their online sales.
“The simplest explanation is that, as a whole, our Chicago stores have not been profitable since we first opened nearly 17 years ago: These stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses have nearly doubled in the last five years. years,” Walmart said in a statement.
“The four remaining Chicago stores continue to face the same business difficulties, but we believe this decision gives us the best opportunity to help keep them open and serving the community,” he added.
Walmart said they are going to help employees at those stores get jobs at other company stores. Workers who do not want to work in another store will be financially compensated for their dismissal.
