The arrival of the Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero to the Liga de Quito club has filled the fans of the Ecuadorian club with hope and expectations, who trust in his experience to provide the team with the goal-scoring nose they needed and, hopefully, opt for a title.

Guerrero, 39, has enrolled in the “King of Cups” of Ecuador with his sights set on the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana that he will play against the Chilean Ñublense, and also facing the second half of the Pro League of Ecuador.

“It is what we need: someone lucky and who knows how to push it. We don’t need him to run or score (defensively). Only that it is standing there and does not send it above the goal, that it sends it inside,” John Núñez, a Liga fan who attended Guerrero’s presentation at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, told the EFE news agency.

“As long as he knows how to put it in the goal, it doesn’t matter if he is a thousand years old… The League has missed goals for this life and the other. Many fans of the League leave (from the matches) dead with anger because of the way we scored goals ”, he added.

Likewise, Núñez warned that “the pressure in the League is not easy and you need someone who knows how to handle it”, something that he believes Guerrero will know how to do from his experience throughout his career at clubs like Bayern Munich, Corinthians or Flamengo.

Meanwhile, Mateo Muñoz, another fan of Liga Deportiva Universitaria, also agreed that the ‘Predator’ was the type of striker the team led by Argentine coach Luis Zubeldía was missing.

“He is a goalscorer in his country and we hope he does the same here. The fans are quite happy and we welcome him with all the love in the world, with open arms. Let’s hope he sweats the shirt, ”Muñoz commented.

The young follower of the League expressed his optimism that Guerrero will leave his mark on the Quito institution because, regardless of age, talent is intact.

In turn, Andrés Velásquez said that the experience of the Peruvian could be useful for the youngest forwards in the League.

“It’s always good to have a star and with Paolo’s experience we can compete better in the Copa Sudamericana and in the local championship,” Velásquez predicted.

“The League is playing well, the problem is that we don’t have a striker to finish off the play. If Paolo is where he has to be, it’s a sure goal. That is why Paolo is the striker that the League needs, ”he added.

On his side, the young Martín Iñíguez confessed that he was surprised by the magnitude of the transfer made by LDU and he was confident that he could help the club from the capital to win a title again because “Liga is a big team.”

Guerrero, who has worn the jerseys of Bayern Munich, Hamburg, Corinthians, Flamengo, Internacional de Porto Alegre, Avaí and Racing de Avellaneda, signed a six-month contract with Liga de Quito until the end of the season, with the option to renew for another year.

The ‘Predator’, the Peruvian team’s all-time top scorer, assured in the press conference of his presentation that he had overcome the knee problems that have prevented him from reuniting with his best version in recent years.
