Some ninety Democratic congressmen from the United States requested legal action from the Biden government against the immigration policy of the Texas governor, Gregg Abbott, after several complaints of inhumane treatment of babies, children and women in the Rio Grande, on the border with Mexico, in the midst of new border measures promoted by the Republican leader.

The Department of Justice, together with the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, announced this week a new investigation into recent complaints about the inhumane treatment of immigrants on the border with Mexico. According to White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, both cabinets are still assessing the situation.

According to reports, soldiers and police officers deployed on the Texas-Mexico border, which is a program supported by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, after the end of Title 42, would have received orders from the state Department of Public Safety to push immigrants towards the Rio Grande, to prevent them from entering US territory.

In the words of John Kirby, these are inhumane actions by the Texas federal authorities that would have caused a mother and her two children who were trying to cross into El Paso, Texas, to get stuck in an area of the Rio Grande, among other things.

Democratic congressman Joaquín Castro said that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told him that the Joe Biden government is reviewing the situation on the Texas border.

In addition, the congressman said that these events are “barbaric” the actions of Governor Abbott, with the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and urged the Administration to intervene and remove the death traps that Abbott has installed, in the name of human rights.

For its part, Human Rights Watch denounced that state troopers are deliberately pushing people into barbed wire, heat exhaustion, and dangerous river currents knowing they will suffer, be injured, and die.

“We ask that you immediately intervene to stop Governor Abbott’s actions given the serious and credible reports of injuries to migrants,” the congressmen said in a letter to authorities.
