Cuba confirmed this week that it received 87 irregular immigrants returned from the United States in two groups, totaling 4,121 returnees from different countries so far this year. The Ministry of the Interior (Minint) reiterated that Cuba and the United States have a bilateral agreement so that all immigrants who arrive by sea when they are deported.
In addition, a new group of 33 irregular migrants, made up of two women and 31 men, arrived at the José Martí international airport in Havana on the fourth charter deportation flight carried out this year by the US authorities.
According to authorities, 12 had left the country illegally by sea and the rest had traveled abroad legally and then joined irregular routes to reach US soil, the report said.
At the beginning of the month, the total number of irregular migrants returned to Cuba from various countries in the region reached the figure of 4,030, after the 38 people were deported by the Bahamian government. The members of this group of Cuban migrants had participated in two illegal exits from the island, through the central province of Ciego de Ávila.
With this flight, there have been 90 return operations from different countries so far this year. The largest number of Cuban irregular migrants deported in these operations come from the United States, groups have also been returned from Belize, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
