Clayton Heard, a retiree from the city of Lanham, Maryland, won a big prize in the Powerball lottery on July 19. The surprising thing is that he used the same numbers from a lottery ticket that he had bought 20 years ago.
Although a player from California did not win the $1 billion prize, he did win $50,000.
Clayton used numbers from an old ticket dating back to 1996.
Clayton, who often plays the Powerball lottery, found an old ticket that was over twenty years old.
As the Powerball jackpot increased too much, Clayton decided to try his luck with the numbers from an old ticket he found, hoping they would bring him luck in the 2023 Eastern draw.
On Thursday, July 20, Clayton woke up at 4:00 a.m. and checked his three Powerball tickets using a scanner.
The first two were not winners, but the last one was.
The Prince George’s County resident realized he had correctly matched four of the five numbers and the Powerball, giving him a $50,000 win.
In addition, on another line of numbers on the same ticket, he managed to match three of the five numbers along with the Powerball, adding $100 to his prize.
“I ran up the stairs screaming. My family was wondering what was wrong,” said the lucky winner.
Clayton, a travel and fishing aficionado, said he intends to take a vacation and do some home renovations.
