The Barbie movie was not only one of the most anticipated releases, but it has also become the highest grossing release of the year, something that only happens in films that arrive in the summer, but this time, the film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling far exceeded expectations.
And it is that without a doubt, the Barbie movie, not only caught the attention of the new generations, but also of the girls’ mothers, who could not escape the nostalgia caused by the image of the famous Mattel doll.
Barbie breaks box office record
The film directed by Greta Gerwig broke records at the box office in theaters in the United States and Canada, raising $155 million dollars in its premiere, the production company Warner Bros. reported in a statement.
This is how the Barbie movie becomes the highest-grossing premiere of 2023, surpassing “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, which on its arrival on the big screen grossed $146.3 million dollars last April.
Which means that Barbie beats The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the plumber from the Nintendo video game, by more than $10 million dollars.
And it is that the marketing of Barbie was at its best in the months prior to its premiere, which generated great expectations to see the actress Margot Robbie on the big screen, giving life to the iconic Mattel doll, next to the Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, in the role of Ken, although the latter generated a shower of criticism for his controversial image.
But without a doubt, Barbie continues to reap success at the box office in its first week of release, where souvenirs have also been in high demand.
The acceptance of the film has been such that many people, and not only girls, wear pink to go see Barbie on the big screen.
Warner Bros spared no expense in bringing Barbie to the big screen or creating her dream Dreamhouse in Malibu, California, she created a whole pink world.
