The executive director of Twitter unveiled the new logo of the social network; a white X on a black background, which will replace the familiar little blue bird.
In a tweet published this Monday morning, Linda Yaccarino expressed that “Here is the X! Let’s do this”.
The tweets or trills will also be replaced, according to the owner of the platform Elon Musk, and the posts will be called “x’s”.
The billionaire businessman changed his profile photo to the new logo and added “X.com” to his Twitter bio.
Musk is looking to create a “super app” called “X”. It’s his vision of a new kind of social media platform that he’s been talking about for months.
On Sunday, Musk wrote a tweet announcing that he intended to change the Twitter logo: “And soon we will say goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually to all the birds.”
He then shared a photo of the new X logo projected onto the facade of the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, California.
Musk, who changed the company’s name to X Corp, said the replacement was “long overdue.”
In a message on Twitter, Musk posted an image of a flashing X, and then in an audio chat on Twitter Spaces replied “Yes” when asked if the company logo would change.
For his part, Yaccarino wrote on the platform that the rebranding was exciting.
“Twitter made a strong impression and changed the way we communicate,” he said.
“Now, X will go further, transforming the global public square.”
The name of the well-known little bird is Larry. It is a tribute to the legendary basketball star of the NBA and the Boston Celtics team, Larry Bird (whose last name in English means “bird”), according to Biz Stone, the original co-founder of Twitter, said in 2011.
One app for everything
For some users in Asia, super apps like PayTM in India and GoJek in Indonesia have been a vital part of their daily lives in recent years.
These apps allow the payment of services through a financial system.
WeChat is a messaging and social networking platform that has become one of the leading apps in the region, in terms of the breadth of services it offers and the number of users.
Last year it was estimated to have 1.29 billion users in China alone.
Twitter’s website says its logo, which features a little blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset.” “That’s why we protect it so much,” he adds.
In April, the firm temporarily replaced the Shiba Inu logo of the dogecoin cryptocurrency, boosting the market value of the meme-based coin.
That move led to a lawsuit against Musk for insider trading by a group of dogecoin investors, who accused him of driving up the value of the coin for his own benefit.
The company also came under fire from users and merchants when Musk announced earlier this month that he would limit the number of tweets account holders could read each day.
The imposition of the daily cap helped the growth of rival network Meta’s new Threads service, which amassed more than 100 million subscribers within five days of its launch.
Twitter’s latest complication was a lawsuit filed Tuesday that says the firm owes at least $500 million in severance pay for employees.
Since Elon Musk bought the company, more than half of the workforce has been laid off.
obsession with X
Musk has long been fascinated with the letter X, though no one knows exactly why.
One of his first businesses in 1999 was known as X.com, which was an internet banking platform.
Three years later, Musk made $165 million when eBay bought X.com, which had by then been incorporated into PayPal.
The billionaire also owns the X.com domain name, which he now redirects to Twitter.
Musk is also the CEO of SpaceX, the US commercial aerospace company he founded in 2002.
For the avoidance of doubt, the name of his first child with Canadian music artist Grimes is X Æ A-12 Musk.
Finally, he recently launched his long-awaited artificial intelligence company xAI, with the intention of developing an alternative to ChatGPT.
