Surely, at some point in your life it has happened to you that you don’t want to do something in particular or you end up giving in to go somewhere and at the end of the day, it turned out that what you thought would turn out to be a catastrophe ended up being one of the best experiences of your life.
That’s what happened in 2010 to a man named Gilbert Cisneros, who along with his wife, Jacki Wells Cisneros, ended up going to a California restaurant called L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, located in Pico Rivera, after the couple disagreed on where they would go for dinner.
At first, Jacki wanted to eat at a famous chicken batter chain, while Gilbert craved Mexican food. Finding no parking in the latter, the man opted for the Hawaiian restaurant.
Gilbert was surprised that they sold Mega Millions tickets locally, so before finishing dinner, he decided to buy 10 tickets, choosing the numbers at random. Days later, this couple got a huge surprise.
Gilbert’s wife was at work, working a night shift, when in the middle of the night she called her husband, euphoric, asking him to check the results of the Mega Millions draw. The man agreed and excited, discovered that they had won the big jackpot that was in this lottery game, which at that time was $266 million dollars.
“I had no idea they sold lottery tickets there,” Gilbert explains in an interview with KNSD. “He was reading the fourth and fifth issues and all of a sudden he blurted out, ‘I think we’ve won,'” the wife added.
At first, the couple wanted their identity to remain a secret; However, the news quickly spread, so they had no choice but to come to light when claiming their prize.
Money literally fell from the sky, since Cisneros had lost his job in recent months, so his first idea was to draw up a financial plan to manage his million-dollar earnings so he would never have to worry about working again.
