The goalkeeper and captain of the Mexican soccer team, Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa, made a surprise visit to a group of young players participating in a national tournament in an Orlando park, the Walt Disney Park in Florida reported Monday.
The goalkeeper met with a group of 35 youth goalkeepers, boys and girls, and posed with them in front of the ESPN Wide World Complex in Orlando, as well as signing autographs and taking photos with them.
“Being able to inspire new kids is something nice and one that I like to support. Like them, I also participated in tournaments and I was young and dreamy, and being able to meet professional players is motivating for your present and future”, said the captain of El Tri.
After visiting the group of young people, a meeting that took place last Thursday, Ochoa took advantage of his stay in Orlando to go with his family to the Walt Disney Park and celebrate his 38th birthday, according to what he said.
The goalkeeper made this visit after being crowned Gold Cup champion on July 16, after Mexico’s 1-0 victory over Panama in the final, a victory that made the goalkeeper the player with the most titles in this Concacaf competition (five).
Mexico also won its ninth Gold Cup since the format of this Concacaf tournament was changed (it is the team with the most trophies) and regained the throne it had lost in 2021, when it fell in the final against the United States.
The youth players who met with Ochoa were part of the final teams of the US Youth Soccer National Championships tournament, which is held throughout the year and last weekend held its finals at the ESPN Wide World Complex.
