A goal by attacker Aldo Rocha helped seal Atlas’s 1-0 away victory against New York City FC in the Leagues Cup on Sunday, but although the match drew several eyes, the spotlight was later on social networks and especially on the Mexican team’s Twitter.

A comment sparked the controversy hours after the end of the game and after the victory, when the administrator of the Atlas Twitter account sparked the controversy by citing a Nazi-leaning phrase to justify an action by the party.

And it is that after the early goal of Atlas at minute 7 ‘the NYCFC tried by all means to find the tie and almost at the end of the game they achieved it thanks to Justin Haak. However, the goal did not go up on the scoreboard due to an offside in a previous play.

This resulted in strong criticism from analysts, influencers and especially from the youtuber ‘Werevertumorro’ who questioned the arbitration decision, for which the Atlas Twitter responded with a quote from the Nazi Propaganda Minister, Joseph Goebbels.

“It is unfortunate how “influencers” and people from the “analysts” media manipulate, generating ideas of “supposed aid”, but remembering what Goebbels, the Nazi minister of information (Hitler’s right-hand man) said, applied it perfectly: ‘lie, lie, lie that something will remain, the bigger a lie, the more people will believe it,'” read the publication, which also included a photo with the moment of the play.

AND SO? 😳

The Atlas account responded to Werevertumorro quoting words from an n4zi.

🤦🏻‍♂️ The youtuber indicated arbitration aid to the red and black and the response surprised more than one.

Due to the controversial nature of the tweet and the messages that the account received, the person in charge was forced to delete it, although later users of the networks captured the message and replied to it with strong criticism.

Given the avalanche of negative comments, the Atlas account was forced to publish a statement in which they regretted the incident and assured that they would take internal measures against the author of the publication.

So far neither the Mexican Football Federation, Liga MX or Leagues Cup have issued information about the incident, which could lead to anything from financial fines to sports sanctions.
