The historic Mexican-American boxer, Óscar de la Hoya, lived for a large part of his career with many excesses that were reflected in a battle against addictions and this is something that he tells in the new documentary that HBO made to recount the darkest moments of his life and how he managed to overcome them to become the important figure in world boxing that he is today.
The documentary also deals with some of the most controversial issues of his life and one of these is precisely the images wearing women’s lingerie and heels that were released after the impressive fight he starred in 2007 against the American Floyd Mayweather; These images were leaked six months after the match and ‘The Golden Boy’ made the decision to speak about it.
“In the documentary I talk about everything, I talk about those famous photos. That topic was one of the first things I wanted to do when I decided to make this documentary with Mark Wahlberg and HBO and with Mario Lopez who did a great job. I told them that I was ready to talk about whatever they wanted to talk about. My life is an open book. And I talked about the photos of me that came out wearing lingerie and all that,” De La Hoya said during an interview on The MMA Hour.
Óscar de la Hoya explained that the person in charge of taking these photographs was a woman with whom he was that night and that despite investing several million dollars for them to be published, they ended up coming to light and generating a strong controversy within his career. The boxer also explained that said woman fled to Costa Rica to hide, but that she was found some time later.
“We found the girl who leaked those photos. I’m not going to go into too many details, but we found her in Costa Rica hiding from her and she told the truth of exactly what happened. The producers or the directors found her, and that was kind of amazing because she was hiding for all of this. I haven’t talked to her for years, and I have no interest in talking to her,” she detailed.
“She is the woman who apparently took the photos. Apparently, there were like three girls there. I do not remember anything. I was very drugged, I was out of my mind, I don’t remember anything, I was drinking this and that,” the promoter concluded.
