And the non-invitation of former Argentine champion Juan Martín del Potro was confirmed, who will not appear in the tournament since he will not be physically ready to play it.

Historical number in prizes

This edition at the Flushing Meadows complex will not be one more for the players, since according to what was announced, it will be historic in terms of the distribution of money as prizes.

The United States Tennis Association reported that the tournament will award a record number of prizes and it will be $65 million dollars, that is, eight percent more than the 2022 edition.

In addition, this year will commemorate the 50th anniversary of equal pay between the women’s and men’s circuits. It is worth mentioning that in 1973, the US Open became the first event to distribute the same amount of prize money for both branches of the circuit, at that time distributing a total of $25,000 dollars to the champions.

Thus, in 2023, the winners of the competition (men and women) will receive a total of three million dollars, the runners-up one and a half million dollars, the semifinalists $775,000 dollars and the quarterfinalists $455,000 dollars.

The tennis players will collect a total of $81,500 dollars (44% increase compared to 2022), just for playing the first round, while those who manage to advance to the second instance will receive a sum of $123,000 dollars. Meanwhile, the third phase will distribute $191,000 dollars, and the fourth round $284,000 dollars.

The qualifying stage (qualy) will also have very high prizes: $22,000 dollars (first round) and $45,000 dollars (third round). As for the doubles, the champions will be benefited with a prize of $700,000 dollars, while the finalists will get $350,000.
