A lottery player thought he was being pranked when he was told he had won a huge lottery prize. The 77-year-old man, named Theodore Norwood, from the city of Westland, Michigan, won playing Mega Millions.
Norwood purchased the winning ticket at a local liquor store, the Michigan Lottery reported.
The man later returned to the store to see if he had won anything and gave the ticket to the clerk so he could check if he had any prizes.
When the employee scanned it, he saw the result, and without saying anything to Norwood, he went to find the owner so he could check one more time.
The boss and employee rescanned the ticket and seeing the result again, the owner asked Norwood if he could speak to him in private.
It was then that the store owner told the player that he had hit the jackpot and made off with no less than $1 million.
At the time, Norwood thought it was all a joke.
However, it turned out that the man had indeed matched the numbers on the five white balls in the July 21 Mega Millions drawing.
Once the winner realized that he had actually won the million-dollar prize, the store owner told him to go home and tell his family.
“I’m not really familiar with what it feels like to be a millionaire, but I think I’m about to find out what it’s like!” said the lucky winner.
Norwood plans to take advantage of his new fortune to travel and will also save a portion.
