A Mega Millions player in Michigan woke up with a balance of $2 million outstanding in her virtual lottery account and thought it was a mistake.
Rachel Frye, 36, matched five drawing numbers for that lottery game held on August 4, earning her $1 million.
However, since he opted for the Megaplier alternative, the amount increased to $2 million.
The woman purchased the ticket from MichiganLottery.com.
Although he regularly bets on that draw, he could not believe that he had obtained the million-dollar sum.
“I play Mega Millions online quite often,” Frye stated. “When I got up the morning after the drawing, I checked the Lottery account on my phone. When I saw that there was an outstanding balance of $2 million, all I could think was, ‘That’s not right,’” she added.
The Freeland woman said it wasn’t until she checked her email that she realized she was a millionaire.
“I closed my application and checked my email. When I saw the email from the lottery saying I had won a prize and verified my account, I knew it had to be real! I turned around and started shaking my husband up and shoved the phone in his face as he yelled, ‘Look at this!’” he recounted.
Frye recently went to Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim the prize, the entity said in a press release on Monday.
“Winning this award is incredible and gives my family some financial comfort,” he said.
Frye won the drawing leading up to the Aug. 8 drawing in which a single ticket won the largest Mega Millions in history or $1.602 million. The “jackpot” fell in Florida. Even the lucky or lucky has not claimed the prize.
