AAA Gas Prices reported that California is the state with the highest average gasoline prices, with a rate of $5.26 per gallon. According to the report, in the country the national average for a gallon of gasoline fell four cents since last week, despite the growing demand for gasoline.
“The price of oil has dropped several dollars per barrel and remains stable below $80, which has contributed to lower prices at the pump,” the report says. “As Labor Day approaches, volatile gas demand and oil prices, particularly during an active hurricane season, could limit price declines in the coming weeks.”
The 10 most expensive markets in the country:
California, $5.26
Washington, $5.06
Hawaiian, $4.78
Oregon, $4.72
Alaska, $4.55
Nevada, $4.47
Utah, $4.22
Arizona, $4.25
Idaho, $4.12
Illinois, $4.11
The 10 states have experienced the biggest drops in their averages:
Indiana, -13 cents
Iowa, -11 cents
Florida, -10 cents
Wisconsin, -10 cents
Michigan, -10 cents
Ohio, -9 cents
Minnesota, -9 cents
Kentucky, -7 cents
Nebraska, -6 cents
Delaware, -6 cents
“Although the national average did a 180-degree turn this week, the way forward could lead to higher prices,” said Andrew Gross, a spokesman for AAA. “Ongoing concerns about potential storm activity could hinder pump prices falling this fall.”
The current national average of $3.83 is 24 cents more than a month ago, but 5 cents less than a year ago.
