Donald Trump dominated the political week: because he was conspicuously absent from the August 23 debate and for appearing before a Georgia judge where he had to pay another $200,000 bail after being indicted for allegedly trying to reverse the results of the 2020 election .
In the debate his only Republican competitor, Ron DeSantis, could not stand out and the other candidates did not seem to have won voters either. This while the fiercest of the attacks was precisely against Trump and came from the only Republican candidate.
Niki Haley said that being the “most unpleasant politician”, with Trump the Republicans would lose the elections on November 5, 2024 against Democrat Joe Biden.
In addition to the former ambassador to the UN, the debate was attended by two other former Trump collaborators, such as Mike Pence and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Everything was happening while the absent Trump was talking on the internet about conspiracy theories that remind us of the bad years of Latin American politics. And The debate turned into a battle for the audience because five minutes before, on the X-Twitter channel, the former Fox presenter, Tucker Carlson, published his pre-recorded interview, in which Trump assured that, as a great favorite in the polls, he didn’t have to debate eight voteless politicians in Milwaukee, who would instead harass him endlessly.
The serious thing is that another conspiracy theory was mentioned in that interview, as Tucker spoke of doubts about the alleged suicide of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein; And it was then that Trump took the opportunity to say that he does not rule out possible risks of attempts on his life. That means that this campaign turns a dangerous color for democracy. And regardless of whether he is right or not, Trump said verbatim: “There are great people in the Democratic Party… but I have seen what they do and how far they go” leaving dangerous remarks in the air, while in parallel he described as a demonstration of “love, union and passion” to the mob that took over the capitol on January 6, 2021, right in the middle of the session where they confirmed the legality of Biden’s election, which he questions without evidence.
Let us remember that it is because of these elections that Trump faces four criminal charges before the courts of: Georgia, Florida, Washington DC and New York.
Trump should attend the second Republican presidential debate next September in Simi Valley, California, there he can still clarify what he meant and avoid dangerous remarks for democracy, since it is not true that words are carried away by the wind.
