Two F-16 fighters and a helicopter responded this Friday to a plane that violated the airspace restrictions that currently apply over the Lake Tahoe area, located between Nevada and California, and where the US president, Joe Biden, is on vacation.
The incident occurred around 7:50 am local time, when a civilian plane entered the airspace that is restricted to guarantee the safety of the US president and his family, the Defense Command said in a statement. North American Aerospace Agency (NORAD).
Upon intrusion, the F-16s released flares to alert the plane’s pilot that he was violating aircraft traffic restrictions. Following that action, the aircraft was escorted out of the area without incident.
Biden, First Lady Jill, and other members of their family are on vacation this week in freshwater Lake Tahoe, known for its crystal clear waters and surrounded by mountains.
This lake has been the scene of films such as “The Godfather II” and the sequels 2 and 3 of “X-Men”, as well as the American television series “Bonanza”.
The Bidens have rented a home from influential climate change activist Tom Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor.
Steyer, 66, ran for the Democratic Party primaries for the 2020 elections, in which Biden ended up being the nominee; and despite spending nearly $200 million of his fortune on commercials, he failed to win and dropped out of the race in February 2020.
According to the White House, Biden is not staying in the house for free, but has rented the house, valued at $18 million, at market rate.
