The Women’s Cup final at the Wanda Alcalá de Henares Sports Center in Madrid was the setting chosen by Jenni Hermoso to make her first public appearance after the controversy with the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales.
Hermoso was present in the box on the sports stage to witness the final between the women’s teams of Atlético de Madrid and AC Milan, where she was applauded upon arrival by the fans present at the stadium.
On the field of play, players from the two finalists and their respective coaching staffs posed before the start of the match with a banner with the slogan “With you Jennifer Hermoso”, which several of the attendees also wore on their shirts.
The Madrid soccer player, who played for Atlético de Madrid in two different stages, from 2004 to 2010 and from 2018 to 2019, has sat in the box with Lola Romero, president of Atlético de Madrid Femenino.
The leader has also shown her support for the recent world champion by wearing a shirt with the same message as the one on the banner, something that María Vargas has also done.
Clear position of Atlético de Madrid
The Atlético de Madrid team has been on Hermoso’s side from the very beginning, after everything that happened.
The club announced this Saturday that it will no longer be a member of the National Women’s Football Committee, ‘a subordinate body of the Royal Spanish Football Federation’.
This is a clear gesture against Luis Rubiales, who announced that he was not going to resign, but that FIFA has suspended him from his duties for at least 90 days. “Lola Romero, our club’s representative on the National Women’s Football Committee, has informed the Royal Spanish Football Federation of Atlético de Madrid’s resignation from continuing as a member of this committee. Our club had been in this subordinate body of the RFEF for more than ten years, of which Lola Romero was currently a member,” the Madrid entity stated on its website.
“Our club had been in this subordinate body of the RFEF for more than ten years, of which Lola Romero was currently a member,” added the statement, which did not give further details.
