The teams River Plate from Argentina and América de Cali from Colombia were playing the match for third place in the Women’s Cup, when River’s player Milagros Otazú raised concerns after having a seizure in the middle of the match.

Otazú collapsed and began to convulse, a situation that worried everyone: she was later removed by ambulance from the meeting.

The 28th minute of the commitment that was taking place at the Wanda Alcalá de Henares Sports Center, in Spain, passed, Otazú fell to the ground and began to suffer convulsions. Immediately, the doctors entered to assist her.

The players of both teams were located to cover the chilling image that shocked everyone present. In fact, some of her companions could not hold back their tears.

After several minutes, the ambulance removed Otazú from the field and transferred her to the hospital to carry out the corresponding controls.

Player is “conscious and stable”

Later it was indicated that Otazú responded favorably to the first medical evaluation and is conscious and stable. The 22-year-old player was accompanied by Gabriela Cenóz, River Plate’s president of women’s football.

The official Twitter account of the Argentine team brought peace of mind about the player’s state of health: “Milagros Otazú suffered a decompensation in the match against América de Cali, received immediate attention and responded favorably to the medical evaluation. She is conscious and stable and was transferred to a health center for further check-ups.

After the scare caused by what happened, América de Cali defeated River Plate two goals for one, to win third place in the 2023 Women’s Cup.

The millionaires succumbed to the scarlets, who stayed on the podium of the contest thanks to goals from Sara Martínez and Zamorano, who turned the score around after the Argentines went ahead thanks to Martina Del Trecco’s goal.
