The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) responded to Jenni Hermoso’s statement about the kiss given to her by Luis Rubiales, suspended president of the governing body of Spanish football, at the award ceremony for the 2023 Women’s Soccer World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
In a text where the soccer player is referred to as “Mrs. Jenni Hermoso”, Rubiales’s position is defended, arguing that “opinions are counteracted with facts and evidence and lies are refuted in the courts”, thus responding to the first statement Issued by the Futpro union on behalf of the player. “The RFEF and the President, given the seriousness of the content of the press release from the Futpro Union, will initiate the corresponding legal actions,” added the federative statement.
In the note, the RFEF attached four images as evidence that defends the position of Rubiales, who in the General Assembly this Friday assured that Hermoso charged him. “They are conclusive evidence that the president has not lied,” the institution said.
“The president of the RFEF has wanted to take this issue with the utmost respect for the players and the institutions and only when an unassumable red line has been crossed has he come out publicly to give his version of the facts (…) The version of the facts of the Mr. President is verified in the internal files that have been opened, without Ms. Jennifer Hermoso having responded to any of the requirements made to date,” the RFEF said in a statement.
On the other hand, the institution indicated that it “respects, as it has at all times, the decisions of the players to want to participate or not with the Spanish team in international matches”, but that “participation in the team is an obligation of all people federated if they are called for it”.
“The RFEF and Mr. President will demonstrate each of the lies that are spread, either by someone on behalf of the player or, if applicable, by the player herself,” the federation stated.
