In the midst of the scandal in which the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales is involved, almost all the members of the coaching staff of Jorge Vilda, technical director of the women’s team, resigned this Saturday.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, at least 11 people from Vilda’s coaching staff resigned in a public letter shared on social networks, which highlights the departures of Montse Tomé, La Roja’s second female coach, and that of Javier Lerga, the assistant Vilda’s technician.
Other sensitive losses are those of Sonia Bermúdez and Eugenio Gonzalo, U-19 coach and U-17 coach, respectively. They were joined by Blanca Romero (physical trainer), Carlos Sánchez (goalkeeping coach), Rubén Jiménez (analyst coach), Javier Velázquez (physical trainer), Javier Egido (analyst coach), Ander Ruiz (goalkeeping coach) and Elena Fernández (trainer goalkeeper).
The signatories of the statement established “their firmest and most emphatic condemnation of the conduct shown by the president of the Spanish Football Federation” at the RFEF General Assembly on Friday, August 25.
In this sense, the signatories of the statement showed their support “for the player Jennifer Hermoso, endorsing the version offered by her.”
The members of the coaching staff also denounced “the inconvenience of having to attend the aforementioned assembly on August 25, in which, in addition, there was a particularly hurtful event for this coaching staff, since several of the female members of the coaching staff technical staff were forced to stand in the front row, exposing their image and trying to make society and players understand that they shared the theses of the president of the RFEF”.
