A retired trucker from Iowa has won a big lottery prize thanks to a hunch that he should buy some tickets. The man took home a prize of $18,888 dollars.

The retired trucker, Marty Curry, 66, told state lottery officials that he kept thinking about the numbers 8 and 18.

The man says these numbers came to his mind after finishing a swimming session.

It was then that Curry decided to play the lottery.

“I never buy lottery tickets, but I told myself I was going to go across the street to Hy-Vee, and if they had any lottery tickets that had the number eight on them, I would buy them,” said the lucky winner.

The man bought a Crazy 8s Scratch-Off ticket and won $18,888, which was the fifth-biggest prize the draw was giving out.

“For some reason, that 8 and 18 clicked in my mind, and that’s exactly what I won: $18,888,” said the winner.

Curry said he bought several tickets that only cost $2 and scratched them off when he got home. It turned out that the last one of them was the one with the grand prize.

Curry said he plans to share his winnings with his children and grandchildren.
