The Taliban’s latest move to restrict women’s rights in Afghanistan has sparked outrage as the fundamentalist group has banned women from visiting Band-e-Amir National Park, one of the country’s top tourist destinations.

The ban is part of the Taliban’s ongoing efforts to impose strict dress codes and restrict women’s freedom in public spaces.

Amid growing concern about the erosion of women’s rights, the Taliban’s decision to ban women from visiting Band-e-Amir National Park adds to a series of oppressive measures.

The group claims the ban is due to women not abiding by the “proper way” to wear the hijab, the Evening Standard news site reports.

This follows previous actions such as banning women from universities, workplaces and moving freely in public without a male relative.

The Taliban’s draconian measures have drawn international condemnation, including from Muslim-majority countries. According to Europa Press, Heather Barr of Human Rights Watch voiced strong criticism of the ban, stating that it further confines women’s lives within their homes, leaving them with fewer opportunities for education, employment, recreation and personal growth.

Band-e-Amir National Park: a symbol of beauty and restraint

Band-e-Amir National Park, established in 2009, has significant value as Afghanistan’s first national park. With its unique geological formations and stunning natural beauty, the park has long been a source of pride and attraction.

The ban on women visiting the park raises concerns about their limited access to such cultural and recreational venues.

As Taliban restrictions on women continue to tighten, the global community remains vigilant in defending women’s rights and freedoms, calling for a more inclusive and equitable society in Afghanistan.
