The Dominican-American Society of Queens (or DASQ, for the initials of Dominican American Society), which is part of our Hispanic Federation, has opened enrollment in two educational programs that are very helpful for Latino families. It is a program of after-school activities for elementary or primary school boys and girls, and another of English classes as a second language for adults.
The extracurricular activities program –or Homework Room, as DASQ calls it– is aimed at girls and boys from first to sixth grade who need to improve their reading, writing and math skills. The program will include reading and writing clubs, STEM (initials with which the group of science, technology, engineering and mathematics is called), environment and chess.
The DASQ Task Room will operate from September 11 of this year to June 21, 2024, between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, at the organization’s headquarters, at 40-27 Calle 97 , in Corona, Queens.
The second program that is receiving registrations is English, which DASQ carries out in collaboration with the JCC, or Jewish Community Council; the New York State Department of Education; and the City Council and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
This ESL course is aimed at adult learners, is free, and classes are also offered at the DASQ location in Corona.
In addition to these two courses, the Dominican-American Society has a summer course for youth, and offers immigration, health, computer, application filling and translation services, as well as health fairs and voter registration drives.
Interested parties have several ways to contact the Queens Dominican-American Society. To register girls or boys in the Homework Room, you can call (718) 457-5395 or write to staff@dominicoamerican.org. You can also fill out the registration here.
