Although the minimum wage at the federal level is $7.50 dollars per hour, in force for more than a decade, each state has the power to legislate its own, that is why in Florida, an adjustment for state employees will come into effect, which will enter in force next September.
Which is great news for state employees, where a large community of Latino immigrants lives.
And it is that despite the fact that Florida is one of the most attractive states for the Latino community and tourism, for the inhabitants and workers in the state it represents a high cost of living.
Legislators know this too, which is why Amendment 2 was passed at the end of 2022, which represented a change in the state constitution to gradually increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour in 2026.
Currently, the minimum wage in Florida is $11 per hour, but starting September 30 it will increase to $12 per hour.
But for tipped employees the minimum wage will increase from $7.98 per hour to $8.98 per hour.
According to Amendment 2, each year there will be an increase, so by 2024 the minimum wage in Florida will rise to $13 dollars per hour.
While for 2025 it will be $12 dollars per hour, until reaching $15 dollars per hour in 2026, which will be in force until December 31, 2027.
Which is undoubtedly great news for employees of the state of Florida.
But after that date, the increase in the minimum wage will be adjusted according to the inflation rate in the country.
