CheapAir.com released its “Year-Over-Year International Airfare Trends Study,” which compares 128 million airfares in markets across the United States and reveals which metro areas are paying the most for international flights.
According to the report, international airfare in the country is up an average of 18%, or about $168 per ticket, compared to this time last year.
Demand for international travel remains strong, even as prices rise and availability is limited to some destinations. As a result, the top 10 cities with the largest international rate increases on average compared to 2022 include:
Philadelphia, 23.5%
Miami, 23.4%
Tampa, 22.2%
Charlotte, 22.1%
Fort Lauderdale, 21.5%
Minneapolis, 20%
Cleveland, 20%
Milwaukee, 20%
San Diego, 19.7%
Atlanta, 19.4%
In addition, the costs of flights have increased in almost all international destinations, except for the South Pacific/Oceania region, which includes destinations such as Australia and New Zealand, showing a nominal decrease of 3% in price on average.
International regions with flight cost changes from 2022 to 2023:
Europe, 23.0%
Canada, 22.4%
Asian, 21.9%
· Middle East, 20.8%
· Central America, 20.6%
· South America, 20.3%
· Caribbean, 17.9%
Africa, 17.1%
· Mexico, 14.8%
Mexico is a very popular international destination for Americans and, relatively speaking, offers slightly better airfares than other international destinations this year. While the airfare depends on Mexico, it has only increased by 14.8%, a better deal than many other international destinations.
