Facing the 29th anniversary of Selena Quintanilla’s death, the singer’s name is on the recent list of nominees for the Billboard Latin Music Awards; but it was also confirmed that they are preparing a concert to honor her.
“Next year, Univisión and Televisa will do a tribute concert to Selena,” announced Don Abraham Quintanilla, father of the late singer, in conversation with Agencia Reforma.
It was in 2005, in an unforgettable tribute in Houston, when figures such as Thalía, Paulina Rubio, Alejandra Guzmán, Ana Gabriel and Gloria Estefan, among many others, gathered on the same stage to honor their legacy to Latin music.
“Just as they did when they were 10 years old (after his death), they will do another concert. In addition, we have already signed a contract with another company and everything so that they make a hologram of Selena”, added the founder of Los Dinos and president of Q. Productions.
“The only thing I know about the concert is that it will be in the year 2024. I also know that AB and Suzette flew to New York when the directors of Univisión and Televisa who will do the show were there.”
“The details of the tribute are unknown, but it will be announced soon,” added Quintanilla.
At the moment, Selena’s music continues to grab nominations. In the recent Billboard Latin list, her name is in the category of Latin Pop Album of the Year by Moonchild Mixes, competing with Camilo, Morat, Piso 21 and Tini at the ceremony to be held on October 5 in Florida.
Days ago it emerged that 28 years after the fateful murder of the “queen of Tex-Mex”, the author of her crime, Yolanda Saldívar, would be considering the possibility of seeking parole from the Mountain View Unit, the women’s prison in Gatesville , Texas, where she is being held.
“She was sentenced to life in prison, and under Texas law, after serving 30 years in prison, she has the right to go ask or appear before the people who grant that pardon or release (parole), but this does not mean that they are going to release her now,” Quintanilla explained about this.
