The Colombian forward of Real Madrid, Linda Caicedo, was recognized this Tuesday with the award for the best goal of the last World Cup in Australia and New Zealand 2023 that she scored for the German team during the group stage of the tournament.
In an announcement made by FIFA on its social networks, Caicedo took the prize for having been the most voted among the options that were available on the portal of the world soccer regulatory body.
In that match against the Germanas, Caicedo took the ball inside the area and after dribbling past two defenders, shot to hit the ball through the entire corner of the goal defended by Merle Frohm.
The goal was not only surprising because of the quality with which the play ended, but also because it was the 2-1 final with which Colombia beat Germany to seal their qualification to the round of 16 of the World Cup.
The ‘Hyundai Goal of the Tournament’ award was determined by a poll, which singled out the 18-year-old’s goal over Panamanian star Martha Cox’s against France, by 0.5 percent of the vote.
