A custody dispute in Florida led a mother to kill her two children before taking her own life.
Media such as WTSP reported this week that Brandy Hutchins, 43, shot her children, one aged 10 and the other 19, before killing herself in the same way.
The tragedy was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers arrived at a mobile home in the Waverly area of Lake Wales where the mother was with her children.
When the agents tried to approach the house, the woman shot her children.
The victims had different fathers.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that in the case of the little boy, a court had given the woman until 6 pm Friday to turn the boy over to his father who had come to pick him up from Maine.
The mother did not comply with the warrant and county detectives worked through the weekend to locate the boy.
Sheriff Grady Judd explained that officers did not suspect that the search would result in a fatal outcome, since Hutchins did not carry a criminal record.
“We’re tapping phones, we’re looking for the kid,” Judd said. “Friends also inquired on social networks. On social media, they said, ‘Hey, if you’ve seen the kid, let us know,’ added the police official.
