Edison López was identified by the New York police as the man who allegedly fatally stabbed his wife, their two babies and then himself at their home in the building where he worked as a “super” on the Upper West Side of Manhattan ( NYC).
NYPD found the bodies of López (41), his wife Alexandra Witek (40) and their two baby boys, ages 1 and 3, in a building on 86th St, near Riverside Drive, yesterday afternoon.
Police showed up at the home after López’s father called Witek’s younger brother after not being able to communicate with the family since Sunday, he said. New York Post.
Witek’s brother, who is the superintendent of a nearby building, alerted authorities. Upon arrival, first responders initially discovered the two boys in the room with multiple stab wounds and two knives nearby, the sources said.
The bodies of the 1-year-old and 3-year-old babies were in such appalling condition when they were found that investigators initially misidentified them as a boy and a girl. It was later confirmed that both were male.
Witek’s body was found in the hallway with a deep gash to his neck, while Lopez was found lying on a bed in a bedroom also with a stab wound to his neck and a knife at his side.
The apartment door was locked from the inside, police said. It is not clear why or when the triple homicide and then the apparent suicide occurred. The family had no known criminal record and there is no record of police being called to their home in the past, the sources said.
The day before, on Friday night, a 29-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man who tried to protect her were stabbed to death in a confusing incident inside a building in The Bronx (NYC).
Last week a mother was killed and her two children ages 3 and 5 seriously injured after they were brutally attacked with a hammer inside their Brooklyn (NYC) apartment by a man who lived with them as a “roommate.”
