On September 1, the new requirements of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will take effect, so some beneficiaries must comply with them if they want to continue receiving direct payments.

And it is that on June 3, the Fiscal Responsibility Law was enacted, which set discretionary spending ceilings to reduce the deficit and thus not exceed the debt ceiling, which directly affects the SNAP program.

People who receive SNAP support are low-income families, and they must meet certain requirements.

Although SNAP is a federal government program, administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), each local government sets its own rules.

But in this case the new requirements are being applied by USDA, and it does not apply to all beneficiaries.

Among the new measures is the proof of work, but this new measure does not apply to all beneficiaries of the food program.

According to the Fiscal Responsibility Law, those who must prove their work are healthy people between the ages of 18 and 55, who do not have financial dependents.

But in case of not having a permanent or part-time job, those interested may present wages equivalent to 30 working hours per week, where the federal minimum wage is paid, which is $7.50 dollars per hour.

Who is exempt from the new requirement?

People who are exempt from the new requirement include those who are homeless, youth ages 18-24 who are over the age of foster care.

Those who are also free to comply with the new requirements are people who cannot work due to some disability, physical or mental limitation.

If you are one of the people who must meet the new requirements, you must update your information, otherwise your SNAP income will be considerably reduced.

Since you will have the right to receive the amount of three months instead of 12, which most beneficiaries receive.

Those SNAP payments will only be in effect for three years, so if you don’t want to lose them.
