A migrant woman who was with her family in the custody of the United States Border Patrol in Texas lost her life Monday due to medical complications, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office reported Tuesday.

The woman’s identity and nationality were not released, but she and her family members were arrested by Border Patrol agents Sunday afternoon in the Rio Grande Valley sector.

The immigrants were transferred to the CBP detention center located in Harlingen, Texas, on the border with Mexico, where the woman had an emergency. A team of doctors at the facility sent her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead Monday afternoon.

In a statement, CBP revealed that the migrant was in Border Patrol custody for only 20 hours.

Likewise, the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting an investigation into the event, and the Harlingen Police also opened their respective investigations into the case.

The CBP detention center in Harlingen has been under scrutiny for the death of an eight-year-old girl from Panama on May 17.

The girl’s mother, identified as Anadith Reyes Álvarez, sought medical help at least nine times for the girl for flu-like symptoms.

The day Reyes Álvarez died, she was treated four times by a nurse practitioner who refused the mother’s request to call an ambulance or take the minor to a hospital.

After the fourth visit to the infirmary, the mother returned with her daughter in her arms when she was apparently having a seizure. Shortly after Anadith stopped responding and it was at that moment that the emergency services were called and the child was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
