Robert Saleh, coach of the New York Jets, promised this Wednesday that in the 2023 NFL season his team will break a 26-year drought without conquering the East division of the American Conference.

“We are in a really tough division, but everyone here knows what the goal is. The mentality is about us, what we can contribute and whether the other teams can match us. We are talking about taking over the East,” Saleh said.

The most recent time the Jets won their division was in the 1998 season. “These guys don’t care what happened 20 years ago. They are focused in the moment. They recognize it, but it is not their story. His story is what is about to be written, ”he stressed.

The East division was created in 1970 after the merger between the old National Football League (NFL) and the newly created American Football League (AFL). It is made up of the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and the Jets.

Since that date, the Patriots have been champions of the East on 22 occasions, the Dolphins and Bills were crowned 13 times each; the Jets have four titles.

For the 2023 season, the expectations that Robert Saleh’s team can once again dominate the division go through the arrival of the experienced Aaron Rodgers as quarterback, the star receiver Allen Lazard and the running back Dalvin Cook.

Weapons with which they can compete against the Bills, one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl; the Dolphins and their talented quarterback Tua Tagovailoa; and the Patriots led by coach Bill Belichick, who has won six Super Bowls for that team.

“It’s not about the opponents, it’s about what you do every day to be the best version of yourself. It will be tough, but they also have to play against us”, concluded Saleh.

The Jets will debut the 2023 season at their home, MetLife Stadium, on September 11 against the Buffalo Bills.
