The high number of shootings in the United States, as well as gun violence, has become one of the fundamental topics of national political discussion between Democrats and Republicans. And the data regarding the impact of gun violence on the Hispanic population in the US is not encouraging.
According to the Center for American Progress, an independent, nonpartisan public policy institute, gun violence kills approximately 4,100 Hispanic Americans each year, an average of 11 deaths per day, according to a report. published at the end of the year 2022.
In the study published by the Center for American Progress, it was determined that the state of Arizona had the highest rate of homicides among Hispanics with firearms in the country, and that, in this state, Hispanic youth have three times more likely to be killed with firearms than their white counterparts.
The other states with the most Hispanic firearm deaths are:
–Texas
– Florida
– California
Three states not surprising, given that, according to the Center for American Progress, at least 73% of the entire Hispanic and Latino population in the US lives in 9 states, which are: California, Texas, Florida, New York, Arizona , Illinois, New Jersey, Colorado and New Mexico.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, an average of 50 people die each day in the US, not counting suicides, from incidents involving firearms. In addition, 100 people are injured.
Likewise, at the end of June, Democratic congressman Dan Goldman (elected for the 10th district of New York) issued a public statement in which he denounced that there have been 332 mass shootings in the United States in the last 6 months.
“We’re only halfway through the year, and more than 21,000 people have died from gun violence. There have been 332 mass shootings in the last 6 months in the United States. That’s close to two mass shootings every day,” Goldman warned in a press release.
