After qualifying for the third round of the ATP US Open, the Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz revealed his aspiration to meet Serbian Novak Djokovic in the final of the Open, with whom he lost recently in the final of the Cincinnati Masters in a great match which ended 5-7, 7-6 (7) and 7-6 (4).
In the press conference after the match against Lloyd Harris, the Spaniard assured that this would be a dream final “both for tennis fans and for me too, I hope I play a final here against him (Djokovic)”.
“But as I have always said, we are in a ‘grand slam’: everyone is tough, everyone can face you. No game should be taken for granted, nor should it be said that those players who in principle have to win are going to win,” Alcaraz said at the press conference reported by EFE.
Alcaraz and Djokovic have starred in two semifinals and two finals so far, such as the historic Wimbledon final that the Spaniard ended up conquering or the recent final of the Cincinnati Masters 1,000 in which he fell to ‘Nole’.
Alcaraz defeated Harris 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (4) after two and a half hours of play and will face British Daniel Evans in the next round.
