The Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr. does not plan to take his foot off the accelerator for the remainder of the 2023 Major League season and this Saturday he hit a home run for the third consecutive day but this time it was not just any hit, but it was the most strong of the year as he went out at 121.2 miles per hour (MPH) to help in the Atlanta Braves’ 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It was the third inning of the game and the Braves’ stellar outfielder was taking his turn against rookie Emmet Sheehan’s pitches and, despite being on a 3-0 count, Acuña Jr. hit a powerful home run that went 121.2 mph all over the center field and traveled a distance of 454 feet to open the scoreboard.
Acuña Jr. seems to feel extra motivation when facing the Dodgers, and it was just two days ago that he became the first player in MLB history with at least 30 home runs and 60 stolen bases (30-60).
But the player’s ambition to make history does not stop there since, with this rhythm that he is exhibiting and with 27 games left to finish the regular round, the player is focused on adding another eight homers to join the select list of players with 40-40 .
In this list is the Cuban José Canseco (42-40) in 1988 with the Oakland Athletics, Barry Bonds (42-40) in 1996 with the San Francisco Giants, Álex Rodríguez (42-46) in 1998 with the Seattle Mariners and Alfonso Soriano (46-41) in 2006 with the Washington Nationals.
