Dmitry Medvedev, the former president of Russia and current president of the Security Council, revealed a notable increase in army recruitment during a visit to Russia’s Far Eastern island of Sakhalin.

Medvedev claimed that recruitment efforts have been ongoing since January 1, several months after Russia’s campaign in Ukraine, with a total of 280,000 soldiers since then.

The influx of new recruits is coming from a variety of sources, including individuals who were formerly in the reserves and volunteers, according to The Moscow Times.

It should be remembered that the Russian army’s recruitment strategy has been marked by a robust advertising campaign: this campaign has encompassed extensive online and offline advertisements on Russian streets.

In addition, the military has worked to lure future soldiers with promises of higher pay, making military service more attractive to potential recruits.

In September of the previous year, the Kremlin reversed its previous stance by announcing a partial military draft. This decision was made to compensate for the losses suffered on the Ukrainian front, which led to the enlistment of 300,000 men. However, the conscription also triggered a wave of emigration from Russia, with hundreds of thousands choosing to leave the country.

Dmitry Medvedev, who led Russia from 2008 to 2012, has become one of the most vocal supporters of Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine. His strong support for President Putin’s Ukraine policies has made him a leading figure in Russian politics.
