The recent proposal of the Alaska Board of Education to prohibit the participation of transgender athletes in sports teams that do not match their sex assigned at birth has become, as expected, another input for the discussion about this topic in the United States. Joined.

One thing is certain: this is not the only state in the US in which a similar measure has been proposed, as there are several states in the country that have established, at the legislative level, regulations that restrict the participation of trans youth in sports team with a gender that does not match the one assigned at birth.

The MAP organization (acronym for Movement Advancement Project), an independent non-profit think tank founded in 2006, recorded that at least 23 US states have established state laws to prohibit the participation of transgender students in sports of equipment.

These states are:

1- Alabama
2-Arizona
3-Arkansas
4- Florida
5- Idaho
6- Indiana
7 – Iowa
8- Kansas
9-Kentucky
10-Louisiana
11 – Mississippi
12- Montana
13 – Missouri
14 – North Carolina
15 – North Dakota
16- Oklahoma
17 – South Carolina
18 – South Dakota
19-Tennessee
20-Texas
21- Utah
22- West Virginia
23 – Wyoming

In addition, most of these states began to implement the laws prohibiting the participation of trans athletes in team sports from the year 2020, and 7 of them established the regulations this year.

A report by the American Civil Liberties Union, reviewed by The Hill news portal, indicated that almost 500 bills that directly target the LGBTQ+ population in the United States have been proposed in at least 46 states of the country.

At least 83 of these bills have become current state regulations.

Given these measures, civil organizations for the defense of human rights have spoken out and have warned that these are discriminatory measures against transgender athletes.
