The former Formula 1 driver and now a commentator on said competition, Martin Brundle, decided to talk about the recent statements by the British driver Lewis Hamilton about the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, whom he pointed out as not having the necessary qualities to be part of a high-level team like Red Bull Racing.
Brundle offered these statements during his words on Sky Sports, where he explained that he is not surprised by the words of his compatriots because they do not want to magnify Verstappen and affirmed that he experienced these types of attacks during his stages at McLaren and Williams.
“That is Lewis’ view and he has expressed it very strongly. He’s not going to give Max an ounce of oxygen, or anything, to make him big. He surprised me how hard it was there ”, detailed the former Formula 1 racer.
Finally, Brundle highlighted that Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Pérez have been the drivers who have put Max Verstappen in trouble the most throughout his career by ensuring that they are “first class” elements; He affirmed that proof of these statements have been the two victories that the man from Guadalajara has achieved during the current season of the Formula 1 world championship, which have precisely been the only defeats for the Dutchman.
“Yes of course Lewis has had some strong teammates but I wouldn’t rule out Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Perez who Max has had by his side. They are first class pilots. But Lewis doesn’t want to give anything away,” he stated.
Let’s remember that Lewis Hamilton has been one of the drivers who has criticized ‘Checo’ Pérez the most during this season in the premier class of motorsport. However, the Briton has been heavily criticized and even Max Verstappen came out in defense of his teammate for the performances he has achieved this year.
“When I was classified by half a second, six tenths ahead of Valtteri, they didn’t say the same thing they say today when Max is classified six tenths ahead of Pérez. And in my personal opinion, Valtteri, and actually all my teammates, have been stronger than the teammates Max has had,” he expressed.
