As part of the investigation of Senator Bob Menéndez (New Jersey) and his wife Nadine for bribery, authorities found more than $480,000 dollars and gold bars in the Democrat’s residence.

This is revealed by the indictment of the Southern District of New York Prosecutor’s Office and detailed by the prosecutor himself, Damian Williams.

“More than $480,000 in cash was discovered in the home, much of it stuffed into envelopes and hidden in clothing, closets and a safe, along with more than $70,000 in Nadine Menendez’s safe deposit box,” the document says. judicial.

The prosecution also faces charges against the businessmen who would have benefited from the Menéndezes; These are Wael “Will” Hana, José Uribe and Fred Daibe.

“Some of the envelopes [del dinero] “They contained fingerprints and/or DNA of Daibes or his driver,” the indictment says.

Authorities indicate that Menéndez would have provided “highly confidential” information that he obtained from the State Department to send to his then-girlfriend, Nadine, who forwarded it to Hana and he sent it to an official in Egypt.

“The indictment alleges that Senator Menendez used his power and influence, including his leadership role on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to benefit the government of Egypt in various ways,” prosecutor Williams added this Friday.

In addition to the money, gold bars were found, valued at about $150,000. In total, about $700,000 dollars would have been found, without taking into consideration a Mercedes-Benz car and other properties.

Senator Menéndez rejects the accusations and attacks the prosecutors, whom he describes as “abusing” the process and misinterpreting situations.

“They have misrepresented the normal work of a congressional office,” the senator said. “On top of that, not content with making false claims against me, they attacked my wife because of the long-time friendships she had before she and I met.”
