The predictions and bets increase every day as the fight between Saúl Álvarez and Jermell Charlo approaches and one of the opinions that attracted the most attention was that of Freddie Roach, the former trainer of the Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao, who predicted a KO by Charlo about Canelo.
Roach pointed out that the current version of the Mexican has been falling, despite being the same age as Charlo, they are not on equal terms. The coach compared the ‘Canelo’ who defeated Gennady Golovkin in their trilogy of fights with the current one, and stated that they are not similar.
“Canelo has had an outstanding career. Although I saw Gennady Golovkin winning the first two fights, I was impressed by the way Canelo beat him. If Charlo were fighting the version of Canelo from before the (third) fight with Golovkin, I would see Canelo as the favorite. But that is no longer the case. “This version of Canelo will not be able to dominate Charlo,” he said.
And he warned: “Both can fight, but I think Charlo will have punching power that will be too much for Canelo to assimilate, especially at that bigger weight.”
“Canelo needs to stay away from Charlo’s left hook. But the question is, can Canelo stay away from Charlo’s left hook? I don’t think he can. That’s why I put Charlo as a favorite, for detention. “I can’t wait to see this fight,” Roach warned.
In addition, he highlighted the attitude that Jermell Charlo displays as a boxer, as this can give him psychological strength. “I love the attitude that Charlo brings to the ring. He’s mean and he’s defiant, and better yet, he backs that attitude up with his talent. They can’t intimidate him. He has a big jaw and is not afraid of getting hit. “Charlo is ruthless inside the ring,” he concluded.
It should be noted that the fight is scheduled to take place next Saturday, September 30 at the T-Mobile in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the Mexican will present his super middleweight titles of the International Boxing Federation, World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization. Canelo will arrive with a record of 59-2-2 and Charlo with 35-1-1.
