Las Vegas police confirmed that a man working on preparations for the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix died after suffering a “significant laceration” to his neck.
Agents from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department attended to the case of a worker injured at the Bellagio fountains at 11:30 am, who was transported to a hospital in the area and who later died from his injuries.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the worker was involved in setting up the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which takes place in the city from November 16 to 18. And it will feature a 3.8-mile track around iconic downtown Las Vegas landmarks, casinos and hotels, including the Bellagio, Caesars Palace and the Venetian.
A couple of weeks ago, teams removed the trees surrounding the sidewalk in front of the Bellagio fountains before the Formula One Grand Prix in Las Vegas.
The trees were removed to improve sight lines for the grandstands that will be built over the fountains during the race’s opening weekend.
“This work is part of preparations for the Las Vegas Grand Prix and our efforts to provide the best possible experience by improving visibility, mobility and pedestrian access and safety,” said an MGM spokeswoman. Resorts in a statement.
Some of the trees being removed will be stored off-site and replanted just before the New Year, while others will be removed permanently, and those trees will be cut into wood chips to be used in select Las Vegas parks.
In addition, starting Monday, street lighting will be installed on part of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sands Avenue, which will entail the closure of night lanes.
Beginning Monday on southbound Las Vegas Boulevard between Sands Avenue and The Mirage, overnight lane closures and lane reductions will occur between midnight and 9:00 a.m.
Also between September 24 and 29, nighttime lane closures and reductions will occur from 9 pm to 6 am on eastbound Sands between Manhattan Street and Koval.
And a temporary vehicle bridge will be installed at the intersection of Harmon and Audrie Street that will result in the closure of the intersection from 9 pm to 8 am daily from Thursday through October 4.
