Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey, assured that he has no interest in running to occupy the position of Democrat Bob Menéndez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, if he does not reach the White House in 2024.

“No, I have no interest in being in the United States Senate,” Christie assured journalist Kristen Welker, on the program Meet the press that aired this Sunday NBC.

He recalled that he had the opportunity to be a member of the Senate in 2013, after the death of Frank Lautenberg. “If I don’t appoint myself, the easiest way to get there, I’m sure I’m not going to run,” said the former federal prosecutor.

He said the allegations against Menendez “are horrible” and acknowledged the Justice Department’s work on the case. According to, between 2018 and 2022, the Democratic senator received “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in exchange for benefiting three New York businessmen and the government of Egypt.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, like other Democrats, asked in an interview with Face the Nation on CBS, broadcast this Sunday, Menéndez’s resignation because he considers that “it is the best” he can do at this time.

“Consistency matters. It shouldn’t matter if he is a Republican or a Democrat. The details of this accusation are extremely serious. “They involve the nature not only of him but of all our seats in Congress,” said the congresswoman.

The New Jersey politician, however, has already refused to do so. “It is not lost on me how quickly some are quick to judge a Latino and push him out of his seat. “I’m not going anywhere,” he said in a statement hours after the accusation became known.

The compensation, according to the investigations, would have included the delivery of cash, gold, mortgage payments, a Mercedes-Benz vehicle and a job for Nadine, his wife, which almost did not require his presence, according to federal prosecutor Damiam. Williams.
