Qualified Minnesota residents could get direct payments of up to $1,300 starting next week. And the authorities already began distributing a special tax refund in August.

Last month, state residents began receiving property tax refunds as part of a $2 million refund from the state’s budget surplus, which was authorized by Governor Tim Walz.

The amount people will receive will be determined by what they reported on their 2021 Minnesota taxes, and the money will be delivered automatically via check or direct deposit.

“This refund will help millions of Minnesotans pay for everyday expenses like groceries, school supplies, rent or child care,” said Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart, who also said all payments are expected to be sent out by the end of September.

“We know it will be very valuable to a lot of people and we hope to send out payments in the early fall,” Marquart said.

To receive the money, people in Minnesota must have low income. That is, if you are married and filed your taxes together, your income limit is $150,000 or less. If single, they must have a maximum income of $75,000 or less.

Individual taxpayers will receive $260, while married couples will receive $520 in total, or $260 for each of them. Additionally, if they have up to three people who depend on them, such as children, they could receive up to $1,300 total.
