Former UFC star Nate Díaz can rest easy now after the assault charges for which he was being accused were dismissed this Monday after a street fight in which he hit and suffocated a young man outside a store in New Orleans.

According to a spokesperson for the Orleans Parish District Office, prosecutors who were carrying the charge of second-degree assault were not considered and now Díaz can rest assured that he will not face any conviction for the act.

Although the information was given by a prosecutor related to the case, it is unknown if both the fighter and Rodney Petersen, the name of the person involved in the altercation, reached an unofficial agreement by which the lawsuits were withdrawn.

After learning of the decision, Zach Rosenfield, Díaz’s spokesman, was happy with the judicial decision and confirmed that at the time of the blows that his client gave to Petersen, each of them was in self-defense, so he should not have been subjected to the criminal trial against him.

“Ever since Rodney Peterson tried to fight Nate on Bourbon Street, we have maintained that Nate’s actions were 100% self-defense. It was clear in the video, clear in the images and clear in the many other videos that Rodney posted before and after,” Rosenfield said.

Finally, Rosenfield took advantage of the time to address the prosecutors in the case and thank them for the outcome that removed all guilt from Díaz.

Although the case directly involved Díaz, at no time did the 38-year-old athlete appear publicly affected or stressed by the development of the investigations against him.

In fact, Díaz recently made the news and not because of his problems with the law, but after being defeated by Jake Paul in an exhibition match that took place last August.
