Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they search for twelve members of a mob that robbed a young couple in Manhattan.
Although their faces were filmed by security cameras and now the New York Police Department wants residents to identify the suspects to capture them.
A group of at least eight men and four women were, according to officials, the ones who robbed a couple in East Village, specifically on East 12th Street.
“It’s crazy. “My children go to school right here,” said a parent who preferred to remain anonymous. “Living here in this neighborhood, you want a nice place for your kids to go to school. “It’s crazy.”
The NYPD indicated that the robbery took place at 3:47 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, in front of 625 East 12th, near Avenue C.
The 22-year-old woman and 23-year-old man were leaving a bar on Calle Ocho and Avenue C when they were approached by the gang about four blocks later.
Officers noted that at least one member of the street mob displayed a firearm, PIX11 News reported.
According to police, someone in the group demanded: “Give me your things.”
At that moment, the members of the criminal gang forcibly took the victims’ cell phones, purses, wallets, and debit cards.
“They’re not from around here,” said a neighbor as he looked at the photographs released by the police. “People here have a certain attitude. They seem transitory, as if they were passing through.”
The female victim suffered minor injuries, but the couple refused medical attention at the scene.
The authorities stated that the 12 criminals fled on foot in an unknown direction.
“This neighborhood is good. You can tell who is who,” said a neighbor named Larry. “I don’t know any of these people at all.”
