A fan stole his cell phone from former soccer player Diego Lugano during the celebration of the title won by Sao Paulo in the Brazilian Cup.

The Uruguayan defender, idol of the São Paulo tricolor, approached to greet the torcedores and, in the melee, a person stole his cell phone from his pocket.

The scene went viral thanks to the fans who were at the scene and were able to record the sequence with their mobile phones. It all started when the Sao Paulo torcedores started shouting for Lugano and went to hug him.

I have seen some stories of cigar rollers having their cell phone stolen during an on-going party (like it happened at big events in São Paulo).

Lugano found himself surrounded by people and a bare-chested individual slipped underneath and slid his hand to take out the cell phone he had in his right pants pocket.

The former sports director of the Brazilian club instantly realized the robbery he had suffered and stopped the thief from fleeing, whom he grabbed from behind. “Call the police,” the 42-year-old Uruguayan managed to say in Portuguese so that his fans could help recover the stolen phone. “Give him his cell phone,” some yelled at him, while others went directly to take justice into their own hands, knocking down the criminal and hitting him on the ground.

In another image published on social networks by Sao Paulo fans, the man can be seen on the ground and reduced, until the arrival of police officers, who handcuffed him and took him into custody. The former Uruguayan national team defender later filed a complaint with the corresponding authorities.

Diego Lugano finished his career at Sao Paulo, where he played 73 games and scored 4 goals.
