People who live in Montana have about a week to request a refund of up to $675 in property taxes that will be given for each taxpayer.
You can request your tax refund in the next eight days, either by using the state’s website or by filling out a paper form, but be sure to do it before October 1.
To receive the tax refund, you must have owned a home in the state and lived in it for at least seven months.
Another condition to obtain the refund involves having issued and paid the property taxes on your home during the 2022 tax year.
“Property taxes are too high, which is why we prioritized and secured immediate tax relief for Montanans this legislative session,” said Governor Greg Gianforte.
“Now is the time to take advantage of reforms to reduce the burden of property taxes in the long term,” Gianforte added.
The money Montanans get from the refund is equal to what they paid in property taxes on their primary home, but the maximum limit is $675.
Depending on the state, refunds will be sent within 30 days of filing online and up to 90 days after filing on paper.
Each property can be used to obtain a single tax refund.
For 2024, state lawmakers have approved a tax refund equal to that of fiscal year 2023 and will follow the same program that will send refunds to eligible residents in the same manner next year.
