The Los Angeles FC winger, Carlos Vela, spoke this Tuesday in the preview of the Campeones Cup, where his team will face the UANL Tigres and took the opportunity to remember that his period in football is getting closer and closer to reaching its end.

In a press conference for the media, Vela reiterated that retirement from professional football will soon be a fact and that it will be his body when he decides he should stop playing.

“Every year that passes, retirement is closer, but I don’t know when it will be. In the end the mind and the body are the ones that decide when to stop, but of course it will be a few more years,” he explained one day before the Campeones Cup match.

Vela, 34, is one of the top Mexican talents of recent times, however he has not represented his country’s senior team by his own decision since the 2018 World Cup, the second World Cup he played in.

“As I know that retirement is getting closer, I enjoy the games more. I don’t know the time, the place and what my retirement will be like. At the moment we are in Los Angeles and I am happy, but I don’t know what the future will hold,” added the 72-time international for Mexico.

Regarding the match, Vela did not hide his admiration for several Tigres figures and recalled that several have been figures in different finals.

“We know that it is a great team, it is one of the best in Mexico in recent years. They have the best forward (the French André-Pierre Gignac) and goalkeeper (the Argentine Nahuel Guzmán) in the league. “They have many important players with experience when it comes to playing finals,” he added.

LAFC comes into the duel in second place in the MLS Western Conference and, according to Vela, they intend to win the Campeones Cup to motivate themselves in the decisive part of the season.

“The Tigers are a difficult team that is clear about what they are going to do, we must impose the pace of the game, put more intensity, speed, so that in the end we have a more solid team,” he concluded.
